The Kennedy Administration Critique Essays - Kennedy Family
The Kennedy Administration Critique President Kennedy was an underrated, mysterious man that not many people knew. He was and still is the youngest man to ever be elected into the presidency and the youngest to die while still fulfilling his duties as Chief Executive. Throughout his term, he was faced with many challenges that he had to fathom, alone and against all American citizens. He dealt with racial discrimination, the Space Race with the Russians, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the Berlin Wall with great precision, along with a couple incidents, such as, the failure to get tax cuts, to help education, and the Bay of Pigs invasion. John Kennedy was confronted with many things that nobody will ever face in their lifetime, and the way he responded to them, made him the best president that American has ever seen. Kennedy had many achievements with his domestic policies. Kennedy helped African Americans, such as, James Meredith, who was denied entrance into the University of Mississippi. The governor of Mississippi, Rose Barnett, said that no black person would enroll in Ole Miss while he was in office but JFK, along with his brother Robert Kennedy, the Attorney General, were obligated to uphold the law. Although he helped out James Meredith, JFK was reluctant to help out a lot of African Americans because he didn't want to lose out on southern Democratic voters. When the Soviets sent Yuri Gagarin into space, Kennedy insisted that America match or beat them in this so called Space Race. NASA, National Aeronautics and Space Administration created by Eisenhower, sent Alan Shepard into space. When this wasnt enough, NASA sent Neil Armstrong, Edwin Aldrin Jr, and Michael Collins to the moon, but Michael stayed on the ship, so he didnt experience walking on the moon. Kennedy convinced Congress to r aise the defense budget by 20% even though they already had far more weaponry than the Soviets or any country had already. When it came to other domestic policies, Kennedy was not able to produce such a positive outcome. Kennedy tried to make huge tax cuts that Congress didn't approve of because that would lead to a very unbalanced federal budget. Even though Kennedy had helped James Meredith get into Ole Miss, he was not successful in helping every African American of this country. The Civil Rights Act, which was introduced in 1963, was not put into effect until after Kennedy had been assassinated. The war in Vietnam was in the stages of becoming a well-known war in the U.S. and Kennedy sent advisors. He wasnt getting us into the war, directly, but he was getting us into the area, that ended up not being a great place for us to be. Lastly, when it came to the foreign policies, Kennedy was successful along with one major failure, the Bay of Pigs. Cuba had fallen to the Soviet Union in 1959, and the U.S. provided training, equipment, and logical support. When they tried to invade, it failed miserably, and as result, Cuba turned to the Soviet Union. Not long after the Bay of Pigs invasion, in October 1962, a U-2 spy plane spotted that the U.S.S.R was building a missile launch site on the island of Cuba. In response to this finding, Kennedy decided to quarantine the island because if they decided to blockade the island, it would have been considered an act of war. JFK was into brinksmanship, or pushing to the edge of war, and hoping that the enemy backs down. He had thought that this as the only way to get the Soviets to back down. Soviet ships were moving closer to Cuba, but then the U.S.S.R leader, Khrushchev, ordered them to turn around. Days later, Khrushchev sent a letter to Kennedy saying that he would remove his missiles from Cuba if the United States would remove the missiles they had located in Turkey. In the early 1960s, the citizens of East Germany, controlled by the Soviets, were unhappy with their communist lifestyle, so they started to flee to West Berlin, where the people were free. In August 1961, the U.S.S.R. and East Germany built a wall that separated West and East Berlin, which prevented people from crossing

rap kills the brain essays
rap kills the brain essays "ROCK MUSIC AND RAP MUSIC IS SUPPOSED TO DESTROY THE MIND" An idea believed by many people is that music has a significant effect on the way people think. Professional psychologists say that the lyrics used in music today has a brain washing effect. This brain washing effect is supposed to make the listener become so overwhelmed with the lyrics of the song, that the person feels that they have to act on what was heard. Act on what they heard means, that they do what the music tells them to do. Whether whatever they do is accepted or not, the music did not cause this to occur. When we hear about this effect music has, we immediately think of negative effects. It is common to believe that the type of music that provides unacceptable content is rap (hip-hop) music, or rock-n-roll (head-banger) music. The reason people have this presumption is rap and rock-n-roll both have a reputations of having or using inappropriate lyrics. With both types of music you tend to hear profanity, artists who degrade women, and talk negatively about other people. When people listen to either type of music over a period of time, they are supposed to have the feeling that they need to do what these inappropriate lyrics say or do. Saying music has the power to control human beings is rather extreme. That is like saying that we humans have no responsibility for our actions. It is understandable that some people are foul, and, they do foul things. Using rap music and rock music as a scapegoat is not right. When we do listen to either rap or rock music, we hear lyrics that are unpleasant to hear, for some people. Usually the artists are speaking about things that happened to them or about things that they are directly involved with. More often than not, they are not trying to advocate such action. They are trying to stop what they are speaking about or make it known to listeners, to what is actually happening where they live or where they ...

Critical Response #2 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Critical Response #2 - Essay Example Different natural disasters are combined and intensified in one movie, which evokes feelings of awe and terror. Seeing hailstorms, tornados, and tsunamis in one sitting is enough to make my blood curl. As if these startling visual images are not enough, half of the world freezes. While millions of people die during these different disasters, I cannot help but feel conscious of my contribution to it. As a cosmopolitan resident in a western country, I have a much larger footprint than people in developing countries with less access to resources and do not depend so much on automobiles and electricity to perform basic tasks. Though this movie is a fictional attempt to change peopleââ¬â¢s materialistic lifestyles, I somehow feel crazily better at the ending, when the astronauts see the world half frozen and the atmosphere is clearer. It gives hope that people can reverse the damage they have done to their environment, if only they do something

Shop Lifting Shop lifting is very common especially on malls and convenient stores. People shop lift because they need that particular thing or that they canââ¬â¢t afford to buy the things they wanted to (Teenagers Shop Lifting). Some shop lifters that has the money to buy things thinks that shop lifting gives them the adrenalin rush or thrill that cannot be caught, they think that what they have stolen is not important and they also think that they are not stealing because the owner or the store can afford to buy that again or the store is insured (Teenagers Shop Lifting). In some cases, people shop lifts especially students because of peer pressure. Shop lifters always carry a small bag or large jacket with a large pocket or umbrella (Preventing Shoplifting). Those things can be use to shop lift. Store management or staff should also be aware and alarm when a person puts down their bag because they may place the thing they get simply by dropping it into the bag (Preventing Shoplifting). There are also times that shop lifters are into a group (Preventing Shoplifting). Some of them will distract the attention of the staff while the others do the crime. Shop lifters can be seen mostly in malls that are crowded and convenient stores. The similarities of these two places are that they have a big space and do not have enough staff that would assist and guard the clients or buyers. Those shop lifters know that in places were thereââ¬â¢s enough employee to assist and guard them, they wonââ¬â¢t be able to the deed because thereââ¬â¢s a big chance of getting caught while in malls and convenient store, they can easily place the things they get and hide it in their bags or clothes without being notice by the employees. Shop lifting is a crime that can be categorize as light. In some states, the fine depends on the amount that the shop lifter stolen while the jail time depends on the repetition of the incident (Zukowski). The penalty or fine ranges from 40 to 1000 dollars and the jail time is only 30 days up to 6 months (Zukowski). The society and justice system give the offenders a second chance to correct their action. If they are going to repeat their action, they will be punished again with a higher penalty and possible longer jail time. Compiling an Annotated Bibliography ? ââ¬Å"Birth Control Guideâ⬠Ed. Transformation Essay -- essays research papers
America is ever changing. Over the centuries it has transformed in many ways. There has been an increase in immigrants, especially Hispanics, which has caused a transformation of both language and culture. Richard Rodriguez in his book Brown: The Last Discovery of America, and in other essays has brought his views on these matters and presents brown as a new way of describing America. Brown as color; as impurity; as language; as America. Richard Rodriguez is a writer who is artistic, and has an idealistic way of recounting things. In his essay ââ¬Å"Late Victoriansâ⬠he writes how a woman jumps off the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. He describes it as ââ¬Å"â⬠¦before she stepped onto the sky. To land like a spilled purse at my feet,â⬠(Encounters, 496) He compares the woman hitting the ground as a ââ¬Å"spilled purse.â⬠When you think of a spilled purse you donââ¬â¢t think of tragedy, so his comparing this insignificant incident of a purse hitting the ground to the death of a woman catches you off guard. Rodriquez says it in such a tranquil manner that the tragedy seems to be unrealistic. He again shows romanticism somewhere else in the essay: On a Sunday in summer, ten years ago, I was walking home from the Latin mass at Saint Patrickââ¬â¢s, the old Irish parish downtown, when I saw thousands of people on Market Street. It was San Franciscoââ¬â¢s Gay Freedom Day parade-not marching backs. There were floats. Banners blocked single lives thematically into a processional mass, not unlike the consortiums of the blessed in Renaissance painting, each saint cherishing the apparatus of his martyrdom. (493) Rodriguezââ¬â¢s comparing the parade with religious allusions makes it more glorious. He compares the parade of floats and banners to a ââ¬Å"processional mass.â⬠He satirically portrays gays as saints just as he is coming from church, which considers homosexuality as a sin. He is basically beautifying the parade. He romanticizes to capture your attention and to bring you into his world. He wants you to see things as he sees them. He wants to ââ¬Å"defy anyone whoâ⬠¦say[s] what is appropriate to my voiceâ⬠(Brown, xi). à à à à à Rodriguez, in his essay ââ¬Å"Peterââ¬â¢s Avocado,â⬠expresses ââ¬Å"[b] rown as impurity,â⬠(Brown, 194). This brown is not brown as color but as something ââ¬Å"mixed, confused, lumped, impure, unpasteurized, as motives are mixedâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (ââ¬Å"Peterââ¬â¢s Avocadoâ⬠, 197). However, brown can be... ...of the United States not for the battles and politics, but for the transformation and complexity of language that occurred through the centuries. ââ¬Å"I eulogize a literature that is suffused with brown, with allusion, irony, paradox-ha! -pleasure,â⬠(Preface, xi). With disconnected allusions, metaphors, and unrealism Rodriguez not only conveys his ideas throughout his essays but also is able to show us part of himself as a writer. He respects peopleââ¬â¢s role in society. He treasures how assimilation can change a culture. He has a passion for brown for converting color and race. He loves language for itââ¬â¢s continuous changes that it has been through over time. He values transformation, whether it is of color, culture, language, or a nation.
